Walls

Explore wall, drywall and paint repair planning with NorCal Handyman. Learn what to photograph and discuss before requesting a local repair estimate.

Wall repairs involve both the cause of damage and the finish you want to see afterward. Use these guides to distinguish small holes, damaged corners, recurring cracks, paint marks and moisture-related stains. A filled opening is not the same deliverable as a textured and repainted wall that blends into its surroundings.

Document the wall before changing it

Take a room view and a close-up with approximate dimensions. Explain what happened, when it appeared and whether a previous repair returned. Show nearby corners, windows and fixtures without cutting the opening larger. If water may be involved, describe the pattern and arrange assessment of the moisture source before cosmetic work. A photograph cannot confirm that concealed materials are dry or sound.

Set a realistic finish boundary

Ask which steps are included: preparation, patching, texture, primer and final paint. Compare an isolated touch-up with repainting to a natural boundary when appearance matters. Keep the original color and sheen information, but allow for variation in aged surfaces and different lighting. Share the home’s approximate age before work that could disturb older coatings; suitable precautions must be reviewed first.

The articles below help you assemble the information for that conversation. Include room names, access height and whether furniture can be moved. Send the affected areas and the desired result through the repair estimate form, or call Matt using the phone link above.
