Fences

Plan fence and gate repair requests with NorCal Handyman. Review damage, access and scope questions before requesting a Sacramento or Placer County estimate.

A fence repair starts with identifying which part of the assembly is affected. A broken board, damaged rail, leaning post and dragging gate should be listed separately. These guides help you describe the condition and compare repair scopes without assuming that replacing the most visible piece will solve the whole problem.

Record the section and its surroundings

Photograph the full fence run from a safe position, then show individual damaged areas. Count affected sections and gates separately, and include approximate height, material and gate width. Explain where plants, storage, slopes or a narrow side yard limit access. Do not push on unstable sections to test them; keep people and pets away from an area that may fall.

Compare support, operation and appearance

Ask whether the proposal addresses boards only or supporting components too. For a gate, describe dragging, catching and latching as separate symptoms. Discuss finish expectations before work begins: new material can remain visibly different from weathered sections. Shared boundaries and permission to access the neighboring side should be clarified before authorization. Pool barriers, automatic gates and required-access routes need their specific requirements assessed.

Keep earlier repair notes and any coating product information. Tell us if the boundary must remain secured while work is underway. Use the estimate request to share your city, the affected length and your priority repairs; scope and availability are reviewed before scheduling.
