After wind, a fence may have one broken board, a loose rail or movement along an entire run. These are different repair jobs. Start with photographs from a safe position rather than pushing on leaning sections to find out how unstable they are.
What to record before arranging work
- Photograph the full affected run and individual damaged sections.
- Identify whether a gate, pet enclosure or walkway is involved.
- Note visible movement or gaps at posts without testing them.
- Record access restrictions on both sides of the fence.
How to define a useful repair scope
Keep people and pets away from unstable sections. A board replacement should not be described as a complete fix if the supporting rail or post also needs attention. Shared boundaries, underground services and any permit requirements must be resolved before more extensive work is agreed.
Details to include in your request
Include the number of affected panels, approximate height and whether the material is wood, vinyl or metal. Mention any adjacent plants or objects that limit access.
