A Sticking Door: What the Rub Marks Reveal

A sticking door is easier to assess when you can describe where it catches. Rubbing at the top corner is a different observation from a latch scraping its plate or a bottom edge dragging. Do not start by trimming away material; that can conceal the symptom without addressing its cause.

What to record before arranging work

  • Identify the exact edge that touches the frame or floor.
  • Note whether the problem is new or seasonal.
  • Photograph the gaps above and beside the closed door.
  • Record any recent flooring or hardware changes.

How to define a useful repair scope

A useful estimate separates hinge or latch adjustment from door modification and finish repair. Ask how the repaired door will be checked in both open and closed positions. Sudden changes affecting several doors, visible frame damage or nearby cracking deserve a broader assessment before cosmetic adjustments.

Details to include in your request

Send a short video from the handle side showing the catch point. Explain whether the door is interior, exterior or between the house and garage.
