A draft near a door does not tell you which seal needs replacing. Air may be entering at the bottom, along one jamb or around a poorly seated corner. Before buying a universal kit, identify the location and check whether the door still closes normally.
What to record before arranging work
- Record which edge feels drafty with the door fully latched.
- Photograph torn, flattened or missing seal sections.
- Note whether the latch needs pressure to engage.
- Check whether an existing sweep drags across the floor.
How to define a useful repair scope
Ask for a repair that restores an even seal without making the door difficult to latch. An alignment problem may need attention before new weatherstripping. A damaged frame, water entry or a door with a fire-rating label changes the scope; disclose those details before any alteration.
Details to include in your request
Include the door material, approximate opening width and close-up photos of the existing seal profile. Keep packaging or product labels if a previous owner left replacement parts.
